High Strength Galvanized Black Surface Hot Rolled Steel Plate

Sanhe Steel specializes in the supply and custom manufacture of high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate for global engineering buyers. We support customized cutting, forming and surface processing based on project drawings. Our black surface hot rolled steel plate coversQ355B low alloy black surface, it retains the original hot-rolled black oxide base texture while adding a durable zinc coating.

High strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate is also referred to as hot rolled black steel plate. It obtains its characteristic dark oxide scale surface through the high-temperature hot rolling production process. Unlike pickled or polished steel sheets, the natural black oxide layer protects the base metal during transit and storage for short-term applications.

The material owns excellent ductility and welding performance, which makes it highly suitable for subsequent cutting, bending, machining and welding work. Sanhe Steel maintains abundant inventories of high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate in multiple thickness ranges. Clients can select standard finished sheets or request customized length and width cutting according to their actual construction and production demands. Common application scenarios include heavy machinery frames, building steel components, truck chassis, storage tank base plates and general metal fabrication projects.

How We Make It

Step 1: Slab heating. We start with continuous casting slabs, heated in a reheat furnace to around 1200°C. Temperature uniformity matters here – uneven heat means uneven rolling.

Step 2: Rough rolling. The slab passes through a roughing mill, reducing thickness progressively. This breaks down the cast structure and gets the plate closer to target dimensions.

Step 3: Finish rolling. This is where the real work happens. The steel moves through a finishing mill at temperatures above the recrystallization point. Multiple passes bring it to the specified thickness. Cooling is controlled – after rolling, the plate is cooled to a coiling temperature typically between 400°C and 580°C.

Step 4: Oxide formation. Here's the key part – that black surface isn't an accident. As the hot steel cools in air, a layer of iron oxide forms on the surface. The thickness and adhesion of this scale depend on cooling rate, final temperature, and atmospheric conditions. We've dialed in our process parameters to produce a scale layer that's consistent and well-adhered – not flaking off in transit, not so thick it causes handling issues.

Step 5: Cutting and dressing. Plates are cut to length, edges are inspected, and the plates are stacked for dispatch.

Step 6: Inspection and release. Every batch goes through dimensional checks, surface inspection, and mechanical testing before it leaves our facility.

Testing & SGS Inspection Support

All high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate supplied by Sanhe Steel comes with original mill test certificates. If clients require independent third-party verification, we can arrange sampling and deliver official SGS test reports covering chemical composition and mechanical property testing.

Key testing items include tensile strength, yield strength, elongation rate and element content analysis. We strictly control thickness deviation, surface defect standards to match international trading standards. Test documents can be sorted and provided together with shipping documents for customs clearance.

Who We Are?

Sanhe Steel was established in 2008. We're based in Qingdao, Shandong province – right in the heart of China's steel-producing region. Our facility covers 80,000 square meters with a workforce of around 200 people, including 50 engineering and technical staff.

The people who actually run the mills, manage the furnaces, and keep the rolling schedules on track.

A dedicated inspection team that monitors every production step, from raw material receiving to final release.

The engineers who work with clients on application questions, dimensional requirements, and processing recommendations.

The crew that makes sure plates are properly packed (standard export packaging: wooden pallets or iron frames, waterproof paper, steel strapping) and loaded on time.

Client Track Record

We've supplied high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate to buyers across multiple sectors:

Container manufacturers – plates for container flooring and structural components.

Shipbuilding – marine-grade plates for hull structures and decking.

Pressure vessel fabricators – Q345B material for tanks and industrial equipment.

General fabrication – structural steel for buildings, bridges, and machinery.

One recent example: a Middle Eastern infrastructure contractor needed 200 tons of black surface plate in non-standard dimensions, 2,200mm width instead of the usual 2,000mm, with specific edge conditioning. We adjusted our rolling schedule, cut to their exact lengths, and delivered in three weeks. They've placed two more orders since.

FAQ

Q1: Can you cut the steel plate according to our drawings?

A1: Yes. We provide customized cutting service. You can send us detailed dimension drawings, and we will process plates into required sizes before shipment.

Q2: What material grades are available?

A2: We supply Q235B, Q355B high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate. Other grades can be arranged based on order quantity.

Q3: What are the applicable scenarios for high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate?

A3: It is widely used in scenarios requiring both high load-bearing capacity and corrosion resistance. Typical applications include outdoor steel structure supports, heavy machinery bases, container accessory parts, outdoor equipment platforms, transportation vehicle chassis components and coastal engineering auxiliary steel structures.

Q4: Does the black surface rust?

A4: The oxide scale provides some protection, but it's not a corrosion barrier. For outdoor storage or extended exposure, oil coating or additional protection is recommended. We can apply oil coating if specified.

Q5: What is high strength galvanized black surface hot rolled steel plate?

A5: It is a premium structural steel plate processed with two core treatments: high-strength hot rolling forming and secondary hot-dip galvanizing. Based on Q355B low alloy black surface hot rolled steel plate, it retains the original hot-rolled black oxide base texture while adding a durable zinc coating.

Q6: What is the difference between Q355B and Q235B black surface plate?

A6: Q355B offers higher yield strength (355MPa vs 235MPa) and better low-temperature toughness, making it suitable for heavy-load and cold-climate applications. Q235B is more cost-effective for general structural use.

Q7: Can you provide normalized or TMCP delivery conditions?

A7: Yes. We support hot-rolled, normalized, and TMCP delivery conditions based on grade and application requirements. TMCP offers finer grain structure and better toughness for thicker plates.
